Regional Bird Guides
The United States spans coasts, deserts, prairies, mountains, rainforests and tundra, so the birds you see depend a great deal on where you are. These regional guides explain what each part of the country offers, how migration moves through it, what to look for in each season and what to keep in mind for safety and etiquette. This site groups the country into six regions: the Northeast, the Southeast, the Midwest, the Southwest, the Pacific West and Alaska and Hawaii. Each guide notes that bird presence and timing vary by location, weather and migration, and that regional boundaries are a simplification. Alaska coverage is partial and Hawaii is not yet covered in depth. To go deeper, pair a regional guide with the habitats hub to understand the places birds use, and with the seasonal calendar to plan your timing. The explore tool lets you filter the bird library by region. Before any trip, check local sightings and refuge or park updates, since conditions change.
