Seasonal Bird Calendar
Choose a region to see when each bird in our library is typically present.
Approximate. Bird presence and timing change with location, weather, habitat and migration. Treat this page as a starting point, then check recent local sightings (for example on eBird) before you go. Seasons are broad, and migrants arrive and leave at different times in different places.
How to read the calendar
The calendar shows the seasons when each bird in our library can regularly be seen in the region you choose. A dot in every column means the bird lives there all year. A dot in only some columns means it comes and goes, which is usually linked to migration or to a move to different habitat.
- Seasons are broad. Spring and fall are the months when migrants pass through, and the exact dates shift with weather and latitude.
- Regions are large. Winter in the north of a region is not the same as winter in the south.
- A missing dot means the bird is not typically present, not that it can never appear.
To understand why presence changes, read Understanding Migration and Birdwatching Through the Seasons. For current sightings near you, check a recent local report before you go.
